It all started when two men knocked at Robert Rodriguez's door in the 3900 block of Porter Street around 8:30 a.m.
Rodriguez knew the suspects because they did odd jobs for him before, so he opened the door.
The two men barged into the home and punched Rodriguez several times before going upstairs where his wife was.
That's when Rodriguez ran to a neighbor's home to call 911.
"It's a shame that it happens to anybody veteran or not," said the neighbor. "It shouldn't happen to anybody, unfortunately it just did today."
Rodriguez's wife was not harmed and the two men escaped before police arrived.
"The wife was shaken up and the husband had to go to the VA hospital to get checked out because he was pushed down and assaulted and also threated with some weapons," the neighbor said.
Even though the couple just recently moved in, Rodriguez says this incident won't scare him away.
