Veteran Riverview firefighter dies

Lt. John Grabowski collapses Monday, attempts to resuscitate him don't work

RIVERVIEW, Mich. – The Riverview Fire Department said Tuesday it had lost a 24-year veteran.

The department said Lt. John Grabowski died Monday after collapsing in the parking lot of his other job at BASF in Wyandotte.

Fellow firefighter Rodney Branham, a BASF employee and emergency responder, began CPR with the assistance of Former Riverview Dispatcher Samuel Vick. Concurrently the Wyandotte Fire Department responded with former Riverview firefighter Jerry Cross, who performed advanced life support measures in an attempt to resuscitate Grabowski.

He was taken to Henry Ford Wyandotte, but was pronounced dead.

Grabowski recently buried his wife Angela, who died of cancer, and is survived by two daughters and step-son.
