Veteran to be reunited with his war dog at Detroit Metro Airport

DETROIT – Two friends, one of whom has fur, are being reunited Thursday at Detroit Metro Airport.

Marine Corps veteran Lance Cpl. Jeff DeYoung, a Muskegon native who served in the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2013, plans on adopting Cena -- the bomb-sniffing military dog he served with in Afghanistan.

DeYoung and Cena met during training in Virginia in July 2009 and were deployed overseas in October of that year.

The reunion is being made possible by the American Humane Association, which works to bring military dogs back to the U.S. from combat overseas to reconnect them with their former handlers.
