Victim in chain-reaction crash on I-75 identified

2nd victim fatally injured identified as 23-year-old woman from White Lake

DETROIT – Two young Oakland County women -- friends since childhood -- were killed in a five-vehicle crash on I-75 over the weekend.

Shelby Seyburn, 22, was with her boyfriend and friends, planning a fun day in Detroit, when she was fatally injured.

Seyburn, of Walled Lake, was the eldest of four, and the only daughter of a loving, tight-knit family.

The 22-year-old and her friend were killed Saturday morning in a five-vehicle crash on I-75 near Mack Avenue. The women were passengers in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The group of friends planned to spend the day biking in Detroit.

Seyburn's long-time boyfriend, Ryan, was inconsolable at the scene.

"He was the love of her life," a family member said.

Still a preliminary investigation, state police said it's not clear why the Cherokee hit another vehicle, or the chain reaction that followed. They said road rage may have been a factor.

Ten people were injured, along with the two Oakland County women who were killed.

The other victim has been identified as a 23-year-old woman from White Lake. Her family did not want to speak Sunday night.

State police are still asking for any witnesses to come forward.
