Video archives from the Detroit Historical Society show rare footage of the city we love

DETROIT – From oxidized gargoyles sitting atop burnt orange brick buildings to the prevalent rustic architecture, Detroit is full of history at every corner.

As we stroll through the newly paved downtown into Campus Martius and the new businesses in the surrounding area, it’s easy to forget that numerous generations have passed through these same streets.

The Detroit Historical Society has a seemingly unknown collection of hundreds of videos dating as far back as the 1930s.

Videos in the collection include footage from the 1984 Detroit Tigers World Series victory parade,  Detroit’s 250th birthday festival in 1951 and rare 1987 footage of Detroiters talking about the revitalization of downtown Detroit.
