Video shows fatal shooting of woman trying to run down officer in SUV

Janet Wilson fatally shot by police officer

DEARBORN, Mich. – Video has been released that shows a woman who was shot by Dearborn police after trying to run an officer down with her SUV. The video shows the incident unfolding through the officer's microphones and dashcam.

The afternoon Janet Wilson was shot and killed by police, she had been at Fairlane Mall shopping. She had gotten out of control, at one point trying to run down security guards at the mall, according to eyewitness reports.

Police were called to step in as Wilson drove off.

Wilson wouldn't stop for Dearborn police, who had their lights and sirens on, but it turned out to be a brief chase. As squads pulled up on her to try to get her to pull over, she briefly obliged, but then pulled away and stopped.

Then she took off again, and police attempted to pull her over again. Video shows smoke coming from the SUV's tires and the revving of the engine as Wilson accelerated toward an officer.

The officer had his gun drawn and was telling her to stop, but she continued toward him, so he shot at her.

Wilson was shot in the chest and fatally injured. Officers scrambled to get in the SUV and get her out.
