DETROIT -

Family members gathered Wednesday night for a vigil outside the home where two brothers were killed in a fire.

Mekhi Williams, 1, and Damion Washington, 4, were killed in a house fire on Prairie Street on Friday.

There were songs of praise during a difficult time as family members shed tears, prayed and held each other tight as they remembered Mekhi and Damion.

"I haven't been over here to the house until today and so it's a little upsetting," said Ceola Willis, the boys' aunt. "I just can't imagine what they went through."

Fire officials are still trying to figure out what caused the family's home on Prairie to go up in flames.

At the time, mom was in jail. The boys' father, Kevin Washington, told police he left the children alone for 10 minutes, but that was enough time for his two sons' lives to be taken as the little ones were trapped in the fire.

Washington was arrested and charged with two counts of manslaughter.

"I can't quite get my head around why anyone would leave a child alone," said Deborah Jones, the boys' great aunt.

It was the first time seeing the boys' mother, Andrea Williams. She was too distraught to speak with Local 4, but it's obvious she's in a lot of pain.

"She lost her two sisters, now she just lost two children," said Willis.
