Visitation held for Michigan native killed in Dallas ambush

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police from departments all over southeast Michigan paid their respects Monday to a Michigan native that was killed in Dallas.

Michael Krol worked for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department before moving to Dallas. He was a Dallas police officer for nine years before he was gunned down in an ambush that killed four of his fellow officers. Krol was 40.

"There is absolutely no excuse for the citizens to rise up against the very people that have sworn to protect them," Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napolean said. "These are innocent police officers."

Napolean comforted Krol's family after the tragedy.

"It's a hard thing in a job to decide who you're going to save and then the people you're working to save, somebody is there to take you out," retired officer Ray Felice said.

Felice worked for the Pontiac Police Department for 26 years.

The funeral mass for Krol will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Redford Township on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
