SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

A group of volunteers is set to help clean up the Stony Creek shoreline following an incident last month in which a bald eagle became entangled in some fishing line.

The Stony Shoreline Cleanup event is planned for Saturday. It is being organized by the Stony Creek Nature Center and the Clinton River Watershed Council.

The idea is to have people walk the Detroit-area waterway's shoreline to retrieve fishing line, plastic rings and other wildlife hazards.

It comes about a month after one of Stony Creek Metropark's resident bald eagles got tangled in fishing line left on an island shoreline.
