ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – it's hard to be excited about sunny and nearly 60 degrees this weekend when your annual event is called Aquafreeze.
The festival which takes place outside Blossom Heath has ice carving, sledding and a snowman-making contest in addition to beer and bands. While there's still plenty of aqua to go around the freeze part is a tad problematic.
So, the beloved annual festival is going to Plan B. Those bands and beer will still be there but they've added pony rides and a petting zoo instead of sledding and snowman making.
The ice carving and ice sculptures will still be on hand, which requires a little bit of strategy. "We'll be putting the ice out at noon on Saturday so we'll have the college ice carving competition," organizer Linda Bologna told us. Those sculptures will be put for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
Then, another round of fresh ice sculptures will be going up on Sunday.
This isn't the first time they've encountered warm weather but on the plus side, it won't be bitterly cold either which in past years has frozen the propane tanks. Bottom line according to Bologna, "you just can't count on Mother Nature."
