Warmer and wetter heading into the weekend

But will it be a washout?

We have a pretty messy weather pattern heading into the weekend, with the word "messy" applying to the meteorological set-up, and not necessarily our weather. To keep this simple, all of the weather features affecting us are weak features: weak upper level disturbances, and a weak front.

As I've explained before, the computer models I use extensively to forecast the weather don't always handle these weak features very well, and it's these things that trigger batches of showers and thunderstorms.

So, I repeat my reminder to download the FREE Local4Casters weather app so you can keep a close eye on the radar wherever you are and stay ahead of the weather. You should also follow me on Twitter at @PGLocal4, as I tweet important weather updates (and sometimes an exuberant comment during a Tiger game).

Tonight will be much milder than last night, and the first part of the night should be dry. A few showers are possible, however, late at night. Lows will average near 60° (15° Celsius for you Canadians). Very light southwest wind.

After a few showers (not everybody will get one) early in the day Saturday, I think we'll have a break for several hours before showers and thunderstorms start popping up randomly by mid-afternoon. Hopefully, the showers will stay away from downtown Saturday morning for all of you participating in the Race for the Cure. I also hope that any thunderstorm activity holds off until after the Detroit Tigers Alumni charity softball game at noon at Belleville High School.

I'll be playing on the Tigers' team with some former Tigers, and you can learn more about the event at bit.ly/1FeBWiu. Come on out and have some fun! Highs in the upper 70s to near 80° (27° Celsius). Saturday's sunrise is at 6:12 AM, and Saturday's sunset is at 8:48 PM.

Outside of a stray shower or thunderstorm, most of Saturday night should be dry. It'll be warm and muggy, though, with lows in the low to mid 60s.

Mostly cloudy on Sunday, and same deal as Saturday: the best chance to see scattered showers and thunderstorms is mid to late afternoon, when it's warmest. Highs near 80°, perhaps even warmer if we get a bit of extra sunshine.

Sunday night will be yet another warm, muggy night…more like mid summer…with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible. Lows in the mid 60s.

Monday brings a cold front with a line of thunderstorms, but we'll also get some sunshine for part of the day. Highs near 80°…perhaps even warmer depending upon the timing of the front.

Becoming mostly clear Monday night, with lows in the mid 40s.

Mostly sunny and noticeably cooler on Tuesday, with highs in the low 60s.

Mostly clear Tuesday night, with lows in the upper 30s (I do not expect frost).

Mostly sunny on Wednesday, with highs in the low 60s.

Mostly clear Wednesday night, with lows in the mid 40s.

Partly cloudy both Thursday and Friday, with highs in the mid 60s on Thursday, and near 70° on Friday.
