WARREN, Mich. -

Sunday a 38-year-old man from Eastpointe was pumping gas at the 7-11 located at 9 Mile and Schoenherr in Warren.

He was approached by two suspects who produced a handgun and demanded his keys, wallet and cell phone. The victim complied and the two subjects fled in his Cadillac CTS.

Monday, officers in the area of 8 Mile and Dequindre noticed the same Cadillac while on patrol. When they tried to pull over the car, the driver took off and a police chase ensued.

Officers gave chase but lost sight of the Cadillac in the area of Woodward and Manchester in Highland Park.

Police then located the Cadillac which had first collided with another motorist before the car next struck a light pole and caught fire.

Warren officers extinguished the flames and requested fire and EMS.

The two suspects were trapped inside the Cadillac and had to be extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life, by fire personnel.

Authorities say a Highland Park firefighter was injured while rescuing the carjacking suspects.

Highland Park fire Lt. Eric Hollowell says the 12-year veteran firefighter was treated at Henry Ford Hospital and released several hours later.

The two suspects were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Both subjects are in serious condition. The driver of the Cadillac is a 21-years-old and the passenger is a 19-years-old, both are from Detroit.

The driver of the car that was hit by the suspects suffered a broken leg.

Officers recovered two handguns from the passenger compartment of the Cadillac. The case will now be presented to the Macomb County Prosecutors Office for review and charges are pending for the two suspects.
