WARREN, Mich. -

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts plans to discuss his stance on possible U.S. military intervention in Syria.

Fouts is the keynote speaker Wednesday at the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance at Davenport University in Warren.

Fouts will focus on where the 9/11 terrorist attacks stand in American history and on the significance of any attack on Syria by the United States.

The retired American history teacher says "the Syrian crisis and 9/11 are both related to America's role in the Mideast."

President Barack Obama has asked Congress to authorize a military strike on Syria after intelligence reports that Bashar Assad's government used chemical weapons against its own people.

Obama on Tuesday threw his support behind a plan for U.N. Security Council talks aimed at securing Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles.
