That's when the driver sped off and hit the officer as he drove away. Police gave chase and the suspect was stopped near Van Dyke Avenue and 10 Mile Road.

Witnesses say police used a spike strip in the intersection to stop the driver while a police car rammed the vehicle. An open 40 ounce beer was removed from the suspect's vehicle, say witnesses.

The driver was taken into custody. The officer's injuries were not serious and he is expected to be ok.
