Warren SUV thief bails after finding baby in back seat

Police: Father leaves vehicle unattended with child inside at gas station, thief swipes vehicle but bails upon finding baby in back

WARREN, Mich. - Warren police say a man stole a sports utility vehicles Monday night but ditched it when he found a baby in the back seat.

The child had been sitting in the SUV, a Chevrolet Suburban, which was unattended at a gas station at 9 Mile and Hoover roads. Police say the baby's father left the vehicle unattended while he went into the station and that's when the thief moved in.

However, he didn't get far before bailing out of the vehicle. Police found the vehicle, with the baby unharmed inside, about a block away on Marmon Avenue.

The baby and father have been reunited.

No arrests have been made while police continue to investigate.
