Washington Township man charged with breaking into home, slapping deputy

Macomb County Sheriff's Office says Michael Salami accused of stealing from Mt. Clemens home

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A 19-year-old Washington Township man has been charged with hitting a deputy who was trying to arrest him in connection with a home break-in.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office says homeowners on Gibbs Street in Mount Clemens called 911 on Sept. 20 to report someone had just broken into their home through a glass door and taken off.

Deputies responded to the scene and searched the area until they found the suspect hiding behind a nearby garage. When a deputy confronted the suspect, the suspect hit the deputy with an open hand and a scuffle ensued.

The suspect, Michael Salami, was taken into custody and deputies said they found electronics, jewelry and cash that had been stolen from the home on him.

Salami has been charged with home invasion and resisting and obstructing.
