Water main break traps Detroit bus on east side

Water main breaks on Pennsylvania Street at Goethe Street

DETROIT – A water main break on Pennsylvania Street at Goethe Street had a Detroit Department of Transportation bus stuck in slush and ice.

According to neighbors, the water main broke two days ago. They have called the city but no one has come to fix it.

The bus got stuck Wednesday evening, said neighbor Renee Simmons. About a dozen passengers had to wait for another bus to arrive. A tow truck showed up later to haul the bus out of the ice.

Simmons said other cars on the street also are stuck. Residents have had to chisel the cars out of the ice.

There is another water main break -- pictured below -- on Jefferson Avenue at Conner Street near the Conner Creek Treatment Facility. Car were passing through in just the center lane.

Crews were working to fix the Jefferson Avenue break.
