WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

Waterford Township police arrested a Kettering High School student Friday after school administrators said he was caught with a loaded gun and knife on school property before classes were released.

The school principal said in a letter to parents that the student was involved in an altercation with other students Thursday evening at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi.

On Friday, the school's liaison officer found a knife on the student and a loaded gun in his vehicle on school property.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

This letter is to inform you about an incident that occurred today at Kettering High School.

We were informed that a student was involved in an altercation at Twelve Oaks Mall yesterday evening with other Kettering students and might be seeking retaliation at school. We immediately notified Officer Gulda, Waterford Police School Liaison Officer, who searched the student and found a knife in his possession. Additionally, Officer Gulda searched the student’s vehicle and found a loaded weapon in the car, which he disarmed immediately. The student was taken into custody and an investigation is currently underway. The other students involved in yesterday’s off-campus altercation were searched and no weapons were found.
