Wayne County commissioners have rejected a lawsuit settlement between the county and Prosecutor Kym Worthy over cuts to her office budget.
The commission voted 12-3 on Wednesday to reject the settlement suggested by a court mediator. The tentative deal was reached last month.
Worthy had asked for $34 million in her 2012-2013 budget. She filed the lawsuit after receiving $25.4 million.
Commission chairman Gary Woronchak says Worthy should negotiate rather than sue over her budget. The county has a budget deficit of about $167 million.
Worthy says she fears child abusers and rapists will go free because of the cuts and added she has laid off about 50 attorneys.
