Wayne County court warns of jury duty scam caller

DETROIT – If you missed jury duty in Wayne County's 3rd Judicial Circuit Court, you will not receive a phone call requesting money and threatening arrest.

If you do, it's a scam.

The Circuit Court says it is getting reports of someone who is calling people and telling them they missed jury duty. The caller says the person has to pay $500 immediately or he or she will be arrested, or at least a warrant for their arrest will be issued.

Again, that's a scam.

"If you receive a phone call like this, it is not from the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court or anyone affiliated with the court," a statement from the court reads. "Do not respond to this phone call or pay anyone any sum of money. Obtain as much information as you can about the caller and report it to your local police department."

If you did fail to appear for jury duty at the Coleman A. Young Center, you need to call 313-224-5650. If you were supposed to serve at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, call 313-224-2507.

If you miss jury duty and don't call to inform the court, you may receive a show cause order requiring your presence in court on a specific date to explain why you missed court.
