I-96 reopens at Davison after fire in west Detroit

DETROIT – Both directions of Interstate 96 reopened at Davison after a large commercial building fire in west Detroit.

Both the local and express lanes were closed for hours Friday night. Eastbound traffic was getting off near the Southfield Freeway. Westbound traffic was being diverted at Davison.

CHECK: Latest traffic conditions

The owners of the building were cutting off roof units, possibly air conditioning units. The cutting caused sparks which fell inside and started the fire. Lots of auto parts, clothes and plastic were burned.

Smoke can be seen for miles. Detroit firefighters were at the building Friday night.

No injuries were reported.
