Florida man uses oxygen machine to attack tow truck driver, deputies say

Lawrence Starr, 74, accused of hitting driver who didn't move out of his way

Lawrence Starr, 74, of North Palm Beach, is accused of attacking a tow truck driver with his oxygen machine.

LAKE PARK, Fla. – A 74-year-old South Florida man used his oxygen machine as a weapon Tuesday when he used it to hit a tow truck driver over the head in a post office parking lot, deputies said.

Lawrence Starr was turning into the parking lot of a post office in Lake Park when a tow truck was in his way, so he yelled at the driver to move out of the way, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

After the driver didn't move, Starr got out of his car, got into the tow truck and pulled the key out of the ignition, the report said.

The tow truck driver then got into Starr's car and pulled the key out of the ignition, so Starr took off his oxygen machine and started hitting the driver on the head and face with it, the report said.

Deputies said the driver had two small cuts on his head and nose.

Starr, who lives in North Palm Beach, was booked into the county jail on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
