WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Sheiko Elementary in West Bloomfield Township was briefly put on lockdown Thursday morning while authorities investigated an assault.
West Bloomfield Schools Superintendent Gerald Hill said a female custodian was assaulted by her boyfriend just after 6 a.m. at the school.

The assault took place inside of the building. Students were not yet at the school. Alerts were sent out to parents. Students were taken by bus to the neighboring high school during the lock down.
"I got the alert on my phone and told my kids I am just keeping you home until we get the clear," said Andrea Griffen. "We have a great working relationship in our community with the schools and police but no matter how good of a job they do it still makes me feel uneasy."
Chief Michael Patton of West Bloomfield police described the assault as minor. Some items in the building were damaged and knocked over. The chief said no weapons were involved and sources say the suspect bit the female employee. She did not need immediate medical help.
The boyfriend is in custody.
