Westland police: purse snatcher strikes several times at thrift store

Police say woman is targeting victims at Disabled American Veteran's store on Middlebelt Road

WESTLAND, Mich. – Westland police are hoping the public can identify a woman who they say has been snatching purses at a thrift store.

Police said there have been four reported purse snatchings since October at the Disabled American Veteran's store at 8050 Middlebelt Road.

The store's manager said there have been even more victims, but they chose not to file a report.

Police have released surveillance pictures of the woman. They said she goes around the store looking for a victim who is shopping alone and either takes the purse or reaches inside it for wallets when the victim is not looking.

Police said the woman uses clothing from the store to hide the purse or wallet under until she walks out.

The woman may be driving a silver or white Honda -- police didn't give any other details.
