WESTLAND, Mich. -

The husband of a 72-year-old woman is in police custody and being questioned by homicide investigators in connection to her death.

The woman, who neighbors described as sweet and kind, was shot and killed at a home on Melvin Avenue, north of Ann Arbor Trail.

While police have not identified the victim, a neighbor who identified himself as Karl said he was shocked she was killed.

"She loved everybody. She wouldn't hurt a fly and a situation like this, no one could ever believe it would happen," said Karl, a neighbor.

"The investigation is still ongoing. We're hoping to know more by the end of the night," said Lt. Todd Adams, of the Westland Police Department.

Police were called to the home around 4 p.m. Thursday after the husband told his neighbor his wife had been shot, and to call 911.

When police pulled up the woman's husband didn't put up a fight. Investigators said he was calm when they took him into custody. His wife was found dead in a bedroom.

Police removed multiple guns from the house. Neighbors said the man suffers from Alzheimer's disease. They said he was having visions that his wife was having an affair.

"He called me yesterday saying that something was going to happen, that he was going to get a divorce or he was going to kill her," Karl said.
