Westland police say a bullet that was allegedly shot by a motorcyclist during a road rage incident narrowly missed a child that was in the backseat of an SUV.
Police said the motorcyclist, Steven Lavigne, and the driver of an SUV got into an altercation Sunday evening near Michigan Avenue and Newburgh Road. The SUV driver had his 10-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter with him.
Police said Lavigne, who is a CPL holder, fired a shot with his handgun into the back of the SUV.
The bullet was traced to "inches" from where one of the children had been sitting, police said.
Lavigne was tracked down and arrested.
He's been charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, three counts of felonious assault and one count of felony firearm.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
