BRUCE TWP., Mich. – The family farm house stood in Bruce Township for 142 years.
It was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning, along with everything inside.

It was a raging house fire at a home right 34 Mile Road. Strong winds from superstorm Sandy only made matters worse.
Gerard Braeckevelt and his wife Shannon looked through the rubble. Their 10-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, and an 8-year-old girl returned to school after losing all of their clothes, books and toys.
The family was sound asleep around 1 a.m. when Shannon thought a light was left on upstairs. Instead it was a fire burning. The family had to get out right away and could only grab a couple of coats.
The family is staying nearby at Braeckevelt's mother's home. The couple says neighbors and friends are already helping with clothes and some donations. They are already planning to rebuild.
"I'm 50 years old and I've lived here 50 years," said Gerard, "This is home."
