Winter Weather Advisory issued for southeast Michigan

DETROIT – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Southeast Michigan from 7 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m. on Monday.

The first issue is sleet and snow which may add up to a couple of inches through this evening and complicate driving with snow sticking to road surfaces.

The next threat is freezing rain or ice overnight. Some elevated roadways could see more than a tenth of an inch of ice as rain falls into sub-freezing temps at the surface. Hopefully by about 4 a.m. or slightly later, we'll see temps climb above freezing and see just rain around for the bulk of the Monday morning commute.

The longer the air remains cool, the longer the concern for ice to cover our streets.

By Monday afternoon, we'll see a few light rain showers linger and warmer weather with highs in the mid-40s.

Tuesday will be the warmest of the week in the 50s with areas of light rain or drizzle around for most of the day. Heavy rain is expected Tuesday night and early Wednesday but snow will be what greets us late Wednesday Night.
