Witnesses say off-duty officer at fault in crash on Woodward Avenue after illegal left turn attempt

DETROIT – An off-duty officer and two teens were injured in a crash Monday morning on Woodward Avenue in Detroit and witnesses say the officer was at fault.

The crash happened at the corner of Woodward Avenue and 7 Mile Road.

According to witnesses at the scene, the off-duty officer was driving a red Dodge Charger and attempted to make an illegal left turn from eastbound 7 Mile Road to northbound Woodward Avenue. 

The Charger crashed into a white Dodge Durango and then hit a DDOT bus.

The Durango was being driven by a school principal and was driving three teens to school.

The teens, ages 14, 15 and 16, and the officer were taken to the hospital. The teens are in stable condition. The officer is in temporary serious condition.
