Woman accused of drunken driving with 4-year-old in SUV

Boy, 4, not hurt; Police said woman's blood-alcohol was 4 times legal limit

MILFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 33-year-old Beverly Hills woman is facing a third drunken-driving offense after she was arrested with her 4-year-old son in her SUV and a blood-alcohol content four times the legal limit, police said.

Milford police Sgt. Scott Tarasiewicz said the woman, whose name has not been released, was found by officers Nov. 2 in her Jeep on the side of South Milford Road near West Moore Road.

Tarasiewicz said officers were looking for a suspected drunken driver after a tip call.

The woman had run over several construction zone cones, which were stuck under the Jeep.

According to the police report, the woman told the officer that she had not had anything to drink since 5 a.m., and was taking her son to camp in Brighton.

"She had cans of Red Bull in cup holders that had liquor in them. My officer could smell it," Tarasiewicz said.

The officer put the woman through a series of sobriety tests, but she refused to submit to a Breathalyzer, according to the police report. She was taken into custody and a blood test was done at the Milford Police Department. Tarasiewicz said her blood work showed a blood-alcohol content of .338 percent.

"The fact that she was that drunk and could still function makes me think she has a history of alcohol abuse," Tarasiewicz said.

The 4-year-old was not hurt, and was picked up by his father at the police department.

Child Protective Services was also notified.

The woman has not yet been arraigned on the charges. Tarasiewicz said she had a suspended license and has two previous operating while intoxicated convictions.
