Woman and child hit by van in Shelby Township Taco Bell parking lot

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 36-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter were struck by a teen backing a van through a Taco Bell parking lot in Shelby Township.

Both were injured. The little girl suffered asphalt burns, while the mother took a direct hit to her face and torso.

The 911 transcript reveals the seriousness of her injuries.

"She is kind barely blowing air from out of her mouth. She's really struggling," the caller told the 911 operator.

The woman's father says she is currently in stable condition in intensive care. She suffered a punctured lung, cracked ribs, a concussion, and multiple broken bones.

The van was driven by a 16-year-old Macomb-Eisenhower High School student. Police say the teen admits he was driving fast. The driver lives in Macomb Township and the van is registered to his father.

Police are monitoring the woman's injuries and could charge the teen driver as an adult.
