Woman attacked in Clinton Twp. apartment

Police arrest suspect after victim's 911 call

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Clinton Township woman is recovering after being severely beaten early Monday morning inside her apartment.

Police said the 33-year-old called 911 to report that a man, who had identified himself as police officer, broke down her door at the Green Valley apartments and was attacking her.

Police said officers from Clinton Township and Sterling Heights showed up and were able to catch the suspect as he fled. They had to use a Taser on him.

The suspect is a 39-year-old Clinton Township man. Police said he has a long criminal history. More information on him will be released when he is formally charged.

The victim suffered a broken bone around her eye area and is expected to be OK.

Neighbor says he heard screams

Chris Lafleure said he and his girlfriend were jolted by screams coming the apartment just a few feet from theirs.

Lafleure said he knows the woman who was attacked. He said he saw a man knocking on her door -- twice.

"He was pounding on the door," he said.

Then, Lafleure said, the screams came.

"She had bruises on her face ... blood everywhere," he said.
