Woman carjacked, beaten up in Detroit

Police say 2 men grabbed woman out of her car, beat her up, stole vehicle

DETROIT – Just a day before her 47th birthday, this mother thought she was going to die.

After visiting with family Tuesday night in Detroit she got on the road and headed to her children's house with her cousin trailing behind her. Along the way her cousin lost track of her.

The next thing the victim remembers is being in the middle of the street on Detroit's east side without her shoes, purse or car.

"I just kept saying, 'What happened? What happened,'" she said.

Police say two men snatched her from her car, beat her up and drove off with her boyfriend's 1997 gold, two-door Cadillac Eldorado.

She doesn't remember much about the attack but she has the injuries to prove it was viscous. She spent two days in the hospital.

"I have fractured nose. I had to wear a collar. I have two bruises on my face, bruises on my arm. I have bruises all the way up my left side, very, very numb," she said.

As police search for the carjackers, this woman plans to celebrate her birthday this weekend with family and friends. She is grateful for the gift of life.

"The car can be replaced. The purse can be replaced. All of that, but my life can't," she said.
