Woman finds man in backseat of her car, calls police

Suspect told police he was looking for a place to sleep

DETROIT – A woman called police after she got into her car and found a stranger sitting in the backseat.

The woman told police she thought something was wrong when she got in the car and smelled cigarette smoke. That's when she turned around and saw the man behind her. The woman jumped out of the car and dialed 911.

The subject told officers that he was sleeping behind a dumpster and it was cold, so he decided to get into the woman's car to sleep. He had some change and credit cards that were in a purse left in the vehicle. The subject has been identified as 66-year-old Vonzell Berry from Detroit. Berry was charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle and was arraigned in the 48th District Court. He's being held at the Oakland County jail.
