'Woman For President' T-shirt called 'Offensive'

Walmart stopped selling the shirt in 1995

My how times have changed.

In 1995, a 'woman for president' t-shirt was considered offensive. This week, Hillary Clinton made history by becoming the first woman to accept the presidential nomination of a major political party.

The shirt, which read "Someday a woman will be president" went on sale during Bill Clinton's presidency, meaning Hillary was serving as First Lady.

Walmart pulled the shirt from its shelves because the idea was deemed so offensive.

Rutgers University Professor Nick Kapur unearthed a 1995 article about the incident on Tuesday, the same day Clinton was nominated during the Democratic National Convention.

The story shows how far the country has come in the past 20 years. Back then, the shirt was popular ― about two-thirds of the 204 shirts available sold, according to the 1995 article by The Associated Press. But it was also considered controversial enough that they chose to stop selling it.
