Woman helps teen who was shot in Detroit neighborhood

17-year-old shot late Sunday night on Lillibridge Street

DETROIT – Nissan Henry said she will never forget what she saw late Sunday night in her east side Detroit neighborhood: a 17-year-old boy bleeding in the street.

“(He said) ‘I’ve been shot.’ And he started crying and screaming. We ran out there and gave him a towel. We helped him take his shirt off and apply pressure," Henry said.

The shooting happened in the 4600 block of Lillibridge Bridge.

Police are trying to find out who, and why, the teen was shot.

He is recovering at St. John Hospital.

Neighbors Local 4 spoke with said they're angered by the violence.

"When I was raised in this neighborhood, it was nothing like this. People don't have regard for other human life," said Yama Mcphearson.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAKUP.
