Woman hospitalized after train/car crash in Ann Arbor

Portion of Pontiac Trail near Warren briefly shut down

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Authorities say a 23-year-old woman whose car was struck and dragged by an oncoming train in Ann Arbor Township has been hospitalized.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said the Livonia woman collided with the train at a crossing on Pontiac Trail between Warren and Dhu Varren roads at about 4:30 a.m. but the train kept going because the train operator didn't realize what had happened.

The woman was pinned inside her Ford Focus in a ditch until around 6 a.m., when another train going through the area noticed the car and called 911.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where the Sheriff's Office says she's in stable condition.

Alcohol and drugs are not being considered factors in the incident, the Sheriff's Office said.

Pontiac Trail in that area was closed for about an hour. It reopened at 7:30 a.m.

The railroad crossing has no gate, but does have a signal.
