Woman lures deaf man to Detroit home to videotape another man beating him, police say

Police say all 3 people involved are deaf

DETROIT – A disturbing video has been released that shows a hearing-impaired man being beaten by another man, and police said the woman holding the camera in the video set it all up.

Local 4's Jason Colthorp has learned the three people went to school together, and all three are deaf.

The video begins with taunting, and then a sucker punch, but it gets much worse.

The attacker throws one haymaker after another and kicks and stomps the man for more than two minutes as the man tries to stop the attack.

"I've seen the video," a family member of the victim said. "I was devastated."

The victim and his family didn't want to go on camera, but his mother said the whole family is upset.

"My daughter saw it and she started crying," she said.

"My first thought was he couldn't got killed," a family member said. "None of us knew he was there. I mean, he could've got killed."

Detroit police confirmed the three people went to school together, and there was a feud between the two 22-year-old men. The woman messaged the victim to come over.

"He was set up," a family member said. "He was lured pretty much there to get to the apartment where the guy was waiting. The girl picked him up, and once he got there, he just started jumping him."

Police said when the victim left the apartment, he got jumped again, and the woman videotaped it on a Facebook Live post.

Detroit police have identified everyone involved. No arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.

"They need to learn their lesson," a family member said. "They doing this for likes and shares and stuff like that. That's not cool. Whether you're hearing-impaired, blind, crippled, crazy -- it shouldn't happen at all."

The victim went to the hospital and is doing OK.
