Woman receives confession note from beer thief

Thief: 'I owe you for all the times I've stolen from your poolside fridge'

CINCINNATI – A Cincinnati woman received a bit of a surprise this week, after a chronic thief who has victimized her for years finally came clean.

Dee and Leo Samad frequently have backyard get togethers with friends and family. There's always a beer tap in the bar and cold beer in the fridge. They began to notice beer would go missing from their fridge. "There for awhile my husband kept saying,' I know I put a case of beer in there and there's only 5 or 6 cans left. But what are you going to do? We put locks on it."

After some time, the locks were too much to keep track of, so they left it unlocked. They figured it was just some neighborhood kids, and didn't think it was a big deal. So last Monday, when Dee Samad returned home from work, she noticed her gate was open. She knew it was closed when she left. She figured someone was in the back, stealing her beer, yet again.

Dee went to close the gate, and noticed a folded note by her back door. "So I came back and picked it up and it was thick. So I unfolded it and seven $20 bills dropped out."

The note read, "Dear homeowner. Enclosed is a sum of cash that my friends and I owe you and your family to repay you for all of the times we have stolen from your poolside fridge/bar over the past few years."

The note writer said he'd had a religious awakening, apologized and prayed for her family, also promising to never return. "Sincerely, Villa Hills resident. That's the most unbelievable thing I've ever had happen to me."

Dee thinks she might know who the author is, but isn't completely sure. She says she hopes the thief does return someday. " I hope that he sees this on TV and knocks on our door and he would be welcome in our home."

Maybe this time, they can have a beer together.
