Woman shot at Garden City apartment; police search for shooter

Police ID suspect as 23-year-old Jalen Hawkins

GARDEN CITY, Mich. – A woman was shot multiple times overnight at the Village Apartments on Venoy Road just south of Warren Road in Garden City. 

Police believe the woman's boyfriend shot her during an argument. He has been identified as 23-year-old Jalen Hawkins. Police are actively searching for Hawkins and said he could be driving a red Ford Focus with Michigan license plate DPM 0573. He also could still have the gun because officers did not find it at the apartment. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Woman in stable condition

The woman was shot in her legs and torso. She is in stable condition and undergoing surgery at a hospital. Police said she was talking to officers and they expect her to be OK. 

Search on for Hawkins

Hawkins is described as a black man standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He is pictured with short hair, but police said he now has longer hair with dreadlocks. He has a tattoo on his throat of the word "Detroit." He also has a tattoo of an eagle and stars on his chest.
