Woman stabbed to death on East Side

Suspect is woman's foster son, neighbors say

DETROIT – Police are investigating after a 50-year-old woman was stabbed to death Sunday afternoon in the 1400 block of Bewick.

Police said the woman was attacked around 3 p.m. in the kitchen of the home by a 27-year-old relative.

Neighbors said they heard the 50-year-old victim fighting with her foster son outside her home. They said the woman tried to resist but was no match for the 27-year-old man.

The woman was stabbed multiple times and died at her home near East Jefferson and Cadillac Boulevard.

Neighbors said the victim, who was known in her neighborhood as Miss Emma, spent her life caring for kids.

They said they're shocked the woman was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight.

Police said the man accused in the stabbing is now in custody.
