Women groped at 2 Canton Township stores

Romulus man arrested in connection to groping reports

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Canton Township police arrested a Romulus man after two women reported being groped while shopping Sunday.

The incidents occurred in two stores. The first was at the JC Penney store on Ford Road between Morton Taylor and Sheldon roads.  The second was at the Kohl's store on Ford Road, west of Sheldon Road.

In the first case Sunday afternoon, a woman shopping at Penney's said a man slid his hand down her pants and grabbed her.

He got away.  When police arrived and were interviewing the woman about the incident, they got a report of a similar incident in the Kohl's store. Shortly afterward, the woman pointed out to police that the man who groped her had returned to Penney's.

Officers arrested a 20-year-old Romulus man.

Trisha Armstrong is a neighbor of the man, who said he has been going through a difficult time, having experienced the deaths of his father and his brother within a month. But she still was shocked to hear the allegation.

"I don't see him doing that, honestly, like, he has never come off to me like that kind of person," Armstrong said.

The man is expected to be charged Wednesday.
