Yoenis Cespedes dazzled Minneapolis with second straight derby win

HR Derby featured bracket-style format in 2014

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Yoenis Cespedes did it again in 2014, dominating the game's best sluggers to win his second straight home run derby. Cespedes blasted nine home runs in the final round to defeat Cincinnati's Todd Frazier 9-1 and take home the trophy.

Below are profiles of all the players that participated in the derby.

American League

Jose Bautista

The American League's Home Run Derby captain is enjoying a strong first half of the 2014 season. Bautista has crushed 17 home runs while picking up 52 RBI through 87 games. The 33-year-old returned to the event after finishing second in 2012 and missing it completely last season. Bautista hit four home runs in his Home Run Derby debut in 2011 and a total of 20 in 2012.

Yoenis Cespedes

Cespedes was the only member of the 2013 Home Run Derby to return for the competition this season, and he did so as the defending champion. In his first derby Cespedes beat Bryce Harper in the finals by a score of 9-8 and finished with a total of 32 home runs.

Josh Donaldson

Donaldson made his first appearance in the Home Run Derby this season after slugging 20 home runs in his first 89 games. He is tied for seventh in the MLB in home runs and ranks sixth in RBI.

Brian Dozier

In what turned out to be a breakout first half, Dozier crushed 16 home runs, which leads all second basemen by four. Dozier made his first appearance in the derby in his home ballpark.

Adam Jones

With 16 home runs through 91 games, Jones is nearly on pace to record his third straight 30-home run season. Despite his recent consistency, Jones never participated in a Home Run Derby before 2014.

National League

Troy Tulowitzki

The runaway favorite to win the NL MVP this season was named captain of the National League derby team after hitting .350 with 20 home runs and 49 RBI through 86 games. The shortstop made his first appearance in the Home Run Derby on Monday.

Todd Frazier

The Reds were represented in the Home Run Derby for the first time since 2000 with the naming of Frazier to the team this season. The 28-year-old has hit 17 long balls this season, just two off his total from each of the two previous years.

Justin Morneau

Morneau returned to his former stomping grounds to participate in the Home Run Derby, as he played 127 games for Minnesota just last season. The former MVP has hit 13 home runs this season after failing to top 20 since 2009.

Yasiel Puig

After storming onto the baseball scene as a rookie, Puig tried to demonstrate his incredible power in the Home Run Derby for the first time this season. Puig has hit 12 homers this season, the fewest of any player in the field, and failed to hit a homer in the event.

Giancarlo Stanton

Likely the most anticipated player in the field this season is Miami's Stanton, who is famous for hitting mammoth home runs in just his fifth MLB season. Stanton has hit 138 home runs in his career, and is on pace to tie his career-high of 37 in 2014.
