Heather Zara joined Local 4 in December of 2007 and is the traffic reporter on Local 4 News Morning, weekdays from 5 to 7am. As a metro-Detroit native, Heather is thrilled to call Local 4 home.
Before coming to WDIV, Heather worked in sports broadcasting for nearly 5 years. She attended Michigan State University, where she earned a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism. In college she was an anchor and sports reporter on MSU's student news program, "Focal Point". Heather also hosted, "MSU & U", a sports and entertainment program, where she won an Emmy Award for "Best College Program".
Heather is no stranger to the TV biz; She interned in Southfield with the FOX 2 sports department, worked for the ABC affiliate in Lansing as a sports reporter and producer, and spent some time in Maryland, covering Baltimore, D.C. and Philadelphia sports.
If you're a soccer fan, you may remember Heather as the in-arena host during the 2006-2007 season of the Major Indoor Soccer League's Detroit Ignition; announcing fan giveaways and interviewing the players at the half.
Even now, Heather has not drifted very far from the world of sports... She is a fill-in sports anchor right here at Local 4 and frequently reports for Sports Final Edition. Heather is also a fill-in sports anchor on 97.1 FM The Ticket and WWJ Newsradio 950.
Before venturing into broadcasting Heather was a professional dancer; She was a member of the 2002-2003 Detroit Fury Cheerleaders and the Detroit Pistons Dance Team, Automotion, during their championship season from 2003-2004.
