(Sports Network) - Chad LaRose scored twice and Carolina peppered Martin Brodeur early, on the way to a 7-2 victory over New Jersey in the back end of a home-and-home series. Josef Vasicek had a goal and two assists for the Hurricanes, who snapped a five-game skid versus the Devils. Scott Walker, Tim Gleason, Ray Whitney, and Rod Brind'Amour also scored for Carolina, which sits in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference with 80 points, one ahead of the New York Rangers. John Grahame stopped 18 shots for the Hurricanes. David Clarkson and Travis Zajac had the goals for the Atlantic Division- leading Devils, who lost their fifth straight home game. The Devils earned a close 3-2 win in the opener of this set Thursday, but couldn't stop the scoring barrage from the Hurricanes Saturday afternoon, giving up the first four goals. Brodeur was lifted after allowing four goals on 12 shots, and Scott Clemmensen finished with 15 saves.

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Saku Koivu and Andrei Kostitsyn scored in the shootout, and Jaroslav Halak made 37 saves as the Montreal Canadiens edged the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2, in a matchup between two teams looking to stay in the playoff hunt. Kastsitsyn and Koivu also scored in regulation for the Canadiens, who have won three of four. Kyle Wellwood had a goal and an assist, and Pavel Kubina also tallied for Toronto, which has dropped two straight and three of its last five. Andrew Raycroft finished with 29 saves in a losing cause. The Leafs and Habs are now locked in a three-way tie, along with the New York Islanders, for the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. With 78 points, they all remain one point back of the New York Rangers, who hold the eighth position after a decisive victory over Boston on Saturday night.

Final Score: Ottawa 3, Philadelphia 2

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Mike Comrie had a goal and an assist as Ottawa edged Philadelphia, 3-2, at Scotiabank Place. Tom Preissing and Peter Schaefer tallied for the Senators, winners of three straight and four of five. Martin Gerber made 28 saves to earn the win. Ottawa once again leaps over Pittsburgh into fourth position in the Eastern Conference with 91 points, one better than the Penguins. Mike Richards posted a goal and an assist and Derian Hatcher also scored for the Flyers, who have dropped four of their last six contests. Martin Biron stopped 30 shots, but dropped to 4-3-1 with Philly.

Final Score: NY Rangers 7, Boston 0

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Henrik Lundqvist stopped 30 shots for his fourth shutout of the season and Sean Avery had a goal and three assists as the New York Rangers destroyed the Boston Bruins, 7-0, at Madison Square Garden. Matt Cullen had two goals and an assist and Ryan Callahan scored his first two NHL goals for the Rangers, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Jaromir Jagr had three assists in the game and reached the 900-assist plateau for his career. He is the 17th player in NHL history to reach that mark. New York now has 79 points and currently resides in the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of the Islanders, Montreal and Toronto. Tim Thomas started in net but was pulled after giving up three goals for the Bruins, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Andy McDonald spent time in net and stopped seven-of-11 shots. Thomas returned to finish the game in the third period and wound up making 25 saves.

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Olli Jokinen scored two goals and added three assists as the Panthers dumped the Islanders, 8-5, at BankAtlantic Center. Ville Peltonen netted two goals and picked up two helpers for the Panthers, who ended a two-game slide. Ed Belfour, who set a franchise record for Florida making his 23rd consecutive start of the season, allowed five goals on 33 shots in the victory. Ryan Smyth and Mike Sillinger each tallied twice and had two assists for the Islanders, who now find themselves out of one of the eight playoff spots in the Eastern Conference due to a Rangers victory over the Bruins on Saturday. Mike Dunham allowed six goals on 33 shots in the loss for the slumping Isles, who have lost three straight and six of their last eight games overall.

Final Score: St. Louis 3, Edmonton 2 (OT)

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Eric Brewer scored 2:04 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 win over the struggling Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place. Petr Cajanek and Jeff Woywitka each had a goal and Radek Dvorak had a pair of assists for the Blues, who snapped a three-game slide. Curtis Sanford finished the game with 22 saves. Kyle Brodziak and Shawn Horcoff each had a goal for the Oilers, who are on a franchise-worst 10-game losing streak. Roloson finished the game with 37 saves for Edmonton, which broke the franchise record for losses set from March 23-April 9, 1995. Since trading Ryan Smyth to the Islanders, the team's leading scorer and emotional leader, on February 27, Edmonton has gone 0-8-1.

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Kimmo Timmonen's pair of goals helped Nashville clip Dallas, 3-2, at Gaylord Entertainment Center. Jordin Tootoo also scored for the Predators, who snapped a two-game slide. Peter Forsberg added an assist in his first game back after missing six contests with an injury. Tomas Vokoun made 34 saves to post his 23rd win of the season. The Predators victory gives them 100 points on the season, the first team in the NHL to reach that mark, and moved ahead of Detroit in both the Central Division, as well as the races for top spot in the Western Conference and for the top team in the NHL. Mike Modano scored twice to set the NHL goal record for American-born players for the Stars, who saw their four-game win streak ended. Marty Turco stopped 21 shots in the loss.

Final Score: Minnesota 4, Calgary 2

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Marian Gaborik and Pavol Demitra each posted a goal and an assist, as Minnesota defeated Calgary, 4-2, at Pengrowth Saddledome. Stephane Veilleux and Brian Rolston also scored while Niklas Backstrom turned aside 19 shots for the Wild, who have won six straight. Daymond Langkow and Alex Tanguay lit the lamp for the Flames, who have dropped three straight. Miikka Kiprusoff allowed four goals on 26 shots in the loss as Calgary sits in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Final Score: Vancouver 4, Detroit 1

Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Roberto Luongo stopped 33-of-34 shots to lead Vancouver over Detroit, 4-1, at GM Place. Lukas Krajicek had a goal and an assist, while Bryan Smolinski, Brendan Morrison and Trevor Linden scored for the Canucks, who have won four of six, and leaped over Minnesota into first place in the Northwest Division with 92 points, one better than the Wild. Daniel Sedin and Matt Cooke also recorded a pair of assists apiece. Pavel Datsyuk tallied for the Red Wings, who lost for the third time in nine games. Coupled with Nashville's win, Detroit fell to second place in the Central Division and into fourth spot in the Western Conference playoff race. Dominik Hasek took the loss despite making 35 saves.

Final Score: Colorado 6, Phoenix 3

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Joe Sakic registered two goals and an assist and Paul Stastny scored twice to lead Colorado past Phoenix, 6-3. With the goals, Stastny extended his NHL rookie-record scoring streak to 20 consecutive games. The 21-year-old's streak is also the second- longest in Avs' history. Sakic, meanwhile, reached the 30-goal plateau with his two tallies for the 10th time in his illustrious career. Ben Guite and Brad Richardson also scored and Andrew Brunette had two assists for the Avalanche, who won for the seventh time in their last eight games to move within six points of Calgary for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Colorado netminder Peter Budaj stopped 31 shots, including all 11 he faced in the decisive third period. Bill Thomas, Shane Doan and Jeremy Roenick each scored and Curtis Joseph gave up six goals on 31 shots for the Coyotes, who have dropped seven of their last eight games.

Final Score: Los Angeles 5, Columbus 3

Jamie Heward's goal and assist led Los Angeles over Columbus, 5-3, at Staples Center. Jaroslav Modry posted a pair of assists for the Kings, who have won two of three. Lubomir Visnovsky, Mike Weaver, Rob Blake and Jamie Lundmark also scored in the victory. Mathieu Garon made 31 stops to earn the win. Nikolai Zherdev had three assists and Geoff Platt scored twice for the Blue Jackets, losers in four of their last five. Rick Nash also tallied and Brian Boucher stopped just four-of-seven shots in his start. Fredrik Norrena stopped 11-of-13 shots in a relief loss.
