All dogs adopted from Dearborn shelter during 'Empty the Shelters' event

DEARBORN, Mich. – “Empty the Shelters” day was Saturday, and it was a successful day for the Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit shelter.

By 3 p.m., all of the available dogs at the shelter were adopted. The event was supposed to go until 4 p.m.

"We've had a line down the driveway," said Katie Johnson, director of operations the shelter. "It's just been an amazing response from the community."

Sixty-five Michigan shelters participated in the event. The promotional event, sponsored by Bissell, allows families to adopt a pet for free.
