ROSEVILLE – When Christine and her husband Ronald went to the Detroit Humane Society, they were looking for a puppy to join their family. However, when the shelter didn’t have any puppies available, they started looking at older dogs that were ready to be adopted. And that’s when they found Maggy Mae.

Maggy’s life started out rough. Last year, she was found on the street and taken in by a local pound. However, she wasn't there for long before she was picked up by the Detroit Humane Society.

When Christine met Maggy Mae at the shelter, she was only 17 pounds, quivering in her cage. She had a heart murmur, and seemed to be scared of everyone—especially women. For this reason, Christine and Ronald decided not to adopt the terrier mix. They were walking away when Maggy Mae broke out of her kennel to chase after Ronald. It was as if she was saying “hey, don’t forget me!” So Maggy went home with the couple, finally part of a family.

Now, Maggy Mae is a 45-pound happy and affectionate dog. She loves to play with her stuffed animals and have “cookie parties” with the dogs next door. “It’s true,” says Christine. “You can find your best friend at the Humane Society.”
