Michigan Humane Society seeks home for rescued dog

Huge amounts of garbage trapped the dog inside the house

DETROIT – The Michigan Humane Society is looking to find a home for a recently rescued 3-year-old Shih Tzu.

Ziggy was found at an abandoned house near Kelly Road and Whittier Street in Detroit on May 10, the Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigation department said. The department went to the house after a concerned citizen noticed the dog was unable to get out of the house.

"The home was filled with trash, from basement up to the first floor," Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigator Dave McLeod said. "Ziggy was severely matted, it was just a poor situation."

Ziggy arrived at the Michigan Humane Society Dresner Foundation Animal Care Campus where the process of removing painful mats from the fur could begin. Ziggy's surgeries proved successful and after a few weeks of recovery he is now happy and healthy again.

Ziggy is available for adoption at the Animal Care Campus in Detroit located at 7887 Chrysler Drive.Â
