DETROIT - The Michigan Humane Society is partnering with the Pets for Patriots program in order to give back to our country's men and women in uniform, whether active or retired. What better time to talk about this program than Veteran's Day?
The program includes significantly discounted adoption fees and discounted veterinary care at one of the three MHS veterinary centers for the lifetime of a pet.
MHS will match adopters up with a dog or cat that especially needs a hero; specifically those that are two years or older, large dogs, or pets with special needs.
Eligible participants include members of any branch of the United States armed forces at any stage of their career (active, reserve, National Guard, retired or veteran).
How to apply: Go to www.petsforpatriots.org and provide proof of military service.
Approval is usually within two business days, after which adopters can visit MHS in Detroit, Rochester Hills, or Westland, or Petco in Sterling Heights to find their new best friend.
