Pet sitting is one of the categories getting a lot of votes and interest. Here are some tips to help find a pet sitter you can trust:

  • Ask your veterinarian – Who better to ask for advice than someone who knows exactly what kind of care your pet needs? The Humane Society recommends consulting your vet to find someone who can handle an emergency situation.
     
  • Conduct an interview – Ask about a the potential sitter's training and past experience. Get a list of references, so you can hear firsthand accounts from previous clients. (source: Petfinder)
     
  • Set up a meetingPetMD suggests arranging a time for your potential pet sitter to come meet your furry friend. This trial run is a great way to test your sitter’s communication skills, and it will reduce stranger anxiety on the first day of your trip.
                         
  • Write up a contract – It never hurts to write a quick contract for your pet sitter. Pet Sitters International recommends including a list services that need to be provided, the expected frequency of visits, and prices/payments. You will also want to establish a way of communication for routine updates and potential emergencies.
